All of our care is provided in Japanese, creating a warm and supportive environment where children can naturally develop their language and communication skills.
For children growing up in the United States, having the opportunity to experience Japanese language and culture from an early age becomes a meaningful connection to their roots and their family. Whether a child was born and raised in Japan, born in the US, or is a second or third-generation Japanese American, developing a sense of self and cultural identity through the Japanese language forms a deep and lasting foundation.
Beyond language, we also gently weave in the values that are uniquely Japanese — a spirit of kindness and consideration for others, thoughtful and beautiful ways of expression, and a sensitivity to the changing seasons — all woven naturally into our daily care.

We celebrate birthdays and honor the seasonal traditions of both Japanese and American cultures throughout the year. At the same time, we are mindful not to let events overwhelm our daily rhythm, and instead create relaxed, natural opportunities for children to explore and appreciate a variety of cultural values.
🎵 Music & Creative Arts
We weave storytime, arts and crafts, and creative activities into our daily routines, thoughtfully tailored to each child's age and development. Through a rich variety of music experiences — singing, finger plays, rhythm games, dancing, and instrument play — we nurture each child's imagination, creativity, and self-expression.
🌿 Outdoor Play & Garden
San Diego County has a wonderful climate that allows us to enjoy the outdoors year-round. Outdoor activity is at the heart of what we do at Hidamari. Children have the freedom to move their bodies and play freely in our spacious yard, developing their physical abilities and social skills in a natural, balanced way. In our organic garden, they get their hands in the soil, connect with living plants, and engage all five senses through hands-on, experiential learning.
🌱 Food Education & Flower Appreciation
Getting hands dirty and learning about real food and where it comes from is great for training palates to savor homegrown fruits and vegetables. Through our organic garden, we nurture children's curiosity about food, their appreciation for life, and their compassion for the natural world. The experience of planting seeds, tending to them, and harvesting the results connects children to the joy of living and cultivates a rich, sensitive spirit.
